This series of paintings is the result of the artist’s secondary creation after a two-week sketching trip to the mountains in the north during autumn. The five works all focus on the front doors of rural houses. Growing up in the city, the artist was captivated by everything the Taihang Mountains had to offer: the encircling mountains, the simple and unadorned villagers, and the stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of urban life. These elements brought a sense of novelty and a fresh perspective. The doors of these houses, like the facade of a home, are mostly constructed from stone and wood. Through these doors, we can almost glimpse into the lives of the homeowners and the stories behind these houses.
