This work was inspired by the characteristics of mushroom growth in Yunnan during the summer season. Before the mushrooms fully mature, I could vividly imagine them hesitating and then courageously pushing through the soil to emerge. This piece draws on my personal experiences of foraging for mushrooms in the deep mountains during the summer months.
